The recommended steps to enter a new catalog item are outlined here.
1. Click the new button
2. Enter an item id and item description. The item id should be unique. If the item id is already used, it is display in red and you can then enter one that is unique.
3. Select a category using popup or enter the code if known.
4. Enter the target margin.
5. Select the selling unit.

2. Click the vendor button and select a vendor from the displayed list.
3. Enter Vendor item id (if known), your cost from vendor, and number of selling units. Upon initial entry this field defaults to the Item Id. Change it to the Vendor's Item Id (catalog number) if available. If not available leave it blank. This field is printed on the purchase order under column "Your Id".
4. Select the order unit.
5. Select the primary vendor. Each catalog item can have more than one vendor in vendor items.
6. Enter the selling price. The suggested price is calculated using the target margin and vendor item information. After entering the selling price, the current margin is calculated and is displayed.
1. Click the new button.
2. Select a location.
3. Select a rate group.
Repeat steps 1 - 3 for each location that has a sales tax rate.
If available enter the barcode, item type, and web status information using guidance in About the Catalog Screen.
4. Click the save button.
