The Cash Drawer screen is a manager's tool for monitoring and managing cash drawers. The employee using a cash drawer normally would not see this screen. Its' purpose is to track in flow and out flow of cash and other payment types as sales are being made. It also allows adding cash to and removing (dropping) cash from the drawer.
Cash drawers are normally opened and closed from the "Transactions" screen so the employees can't see the current balance in the drawer. "New Drawer" and "Close Drawer" buttons are provided to support those functions here.
Search fields and browser function the same as they do on other screens. When the cash drawer screen is opened, the status popup defaults to "Open" and all other fields are blank. The browser lists all open drawers. Search fields can be used to reduce the number of drawers displayed.
A beginning cash balance is entered when the drawer is opened. The current balance is continuously calculated as sales are being made. The current balance = beginning cash + cash in + cash added - cash out - change out - cash removed. Cash out is cash that is given to a customer for returns or refunds.
When a drawer is closed, the ending cash count is entered. The over/short amount is calculated and displayed here. Once a drawer is closed, it cannot be reopened.
"Other in" include payments made by gift certificate, store credits, coupons, etc.
Cash may be added if the current balance is too low. To add cash, click the plus sign (+) and enter the amount added. The current balance is increased by this amount.
Cash may be removed to place in a safe if the current balance is too high. To remove cash, click the minus sign (-) and enter the amount to be removed. The current balance is decreased by this amount.
The "New Drawer" and "Close Drawer" buttons display the same open and close dialogs that appear in the "Transactions" screen.
